WARNEMUNDE EAST GERMANY

A number of guests took a train to East Berlin. We didn't want to be in transit for 6 hours.  It was a great decision.  Instead we walked off the ship  to a wonderful seaside resort town, a crew favorite on the Baltic run.  It was full of East Germans celebrating their first day of summer vacation.  This is the first thing we saw when we walked off the gangway, was this billboard.  We thought, "ooh, this is our kind of town!":

The canal and adjoining park was full of rowers and food booths.  Hot!  There were rowing contests of all ages going on.  It was a very friendly and joyous, with music and bullhorns announcing the results from the last run and the next contestants.

You can see how inexpensive it was.  A relief from the prices of Copenhagen...

Here's one friend, waiting for us to finish our seafood...

We walked toward the seaside and found another festival going on, with senior citizens enjoying german dancing and costumes
